For nurses & everyone who joins in

You cannot change nursing on your own

Tired of waiting for β€œthe people at the top” to change something? Here you will find people, tools and projects to get started yourself – with courage, imagination and fun.

Where we stand

β€œWe have always done it this way” is banned here

Instead we ask: how would we do it if we were starting from scratch today?

From the bottom up

Change starts with the people doing the work. PeBeM (Germany's statutory nurse staffing measurement procedure) driven by the works council and staff representatives, front-line expertise put to use – not the other way round.

Liquid Democracy

Decisions voted on in the team – transparent and fair, instead of orders handed down from above.

Prototypes, not PowerPoint

Solving problems creatively: we build prototypes out of cardboard and Lego before we buy expensive technology. Test fast, fail fast, improve fast.

πŸŽ‰ Hackathons & Events

Building beats complaining

At nursing hackathons, nurses work in small teams on solutions to real problems from their own working day – first with cardboard and Lego, then with technology. No prior knowledge needed, food and drink free, and the results belong to everyone.

PflegeOS: software that belongs to everyone

For €1 a day, an AI keeps developing open-source nursing software – person-centred, open-source, scientifically curious. Submit ideas, bring your knowledge of the law, or simply watch how the experiment unfolds.

Frequently asked

What people who join in ask us most often

I am a nurse with no technical background – can I even take part in a hackathon?

Absolutely – in fact, you are the most important person in the room. At our nursing hackathons, the understanding of the problem comes from nurses and care workers, not from developers. Ideas are prototyped with cardboard, Lego and paper before anyone writes a line of code. Food and drink are free, and you need no prior knowledge.

What is PflegeOS – and who can help build it?

PflegeOS is our open experiment: for €1 a day, an AI keeps developing open-source nursing software for inpatient long-term care – person-centred instead of bureaucracy-centred. Anyone can submit ideas, contribute knowledge of the law and of daily practice, or work on the code. Everything is publicly visible at pflegeos.vercel.app.

What does taking part in the community cost?

Nothing. Community meet-ups, hackathons and contributing to open projects such as PflegeOS are free. We fund ourselves through our services for care providers and through grant-funded projects – the community is the heart of what we do, not a business model.

Fancy joining in?

Just send us an informal email – we will add you to the mailing list for events, or work out together where your ideas fit best.
